Aloha European Day of Languages

Last Friday, Aloha College celebrated the European Day of Languages through different activities organised in school. Pupils wore their House T-shirts as part of the celebration.

Secondary School students were involved in an inter-house assembly: KS5 pupils did the introductory film with a pupil performing as a teacher who talked about the meaning of the European Languages Day; KS4 pupils did a sketch on stage speaking in different languages to demonstrate how many languages we speak at Aloha and how hard it can be to communicate; and KS3 enjoyed an inter-house quiz held by Mrs Wade and her Modern Foreign Languages Department, where Sevilla was the overall winner.

In Primary, children also had some fun linked to this language theme. KS2 pupils took part in a quiz: Years 3 and 4 were asked questions based on different languages/ geography and Years 5 and 6 were asked about Europe, its capital cities and flags. Sevilla was the winning House in Year 3, Córdoba in Year 4 and Year 5 and Granada in Year 6 – they all had a good time.

The aim of the event, to encourage language learning and intercultural understanding, was definitively achieved throughout the whole day.Capture1 Capture2 Capture3 Primary-green Primary-red
