🎨 Celebrating Creativity: Exhibition Showcase by Margarita Mikhaylova

Get ready to be inspired! ✨ Our incredibly talented A-Level Art student, Margarita Mikhaylova, has just unveiled their breathtaking Autumn exhibition, and it's a must-see!

Under the expert guidance of Mr. Basante and Ms. Nottingham, Margarita has created a series of powerful and thought-provoking pieces inspired by the dramatic genius of Caravaggio.

Caravaggio, an Italian master of the Baroque period, was renowned for his revolutionary use of tenebrism – a high-contrast style of lighting where figures emerge from deep shadows into a stark, illuminating light. He also brought a raw naturalism to his subjects, depicting religious figures not as idealised beings, but with human emotion and vulnerability. His work often explored themes of human suffering, redemption, and the sacred in the everyday.

Margarita has brilliantly channeled Caravaggio's spirit, applying these striking visual techniques to portray religious figures from a diverse range of faiths. Each piece is a testament to her exceptional skill, profound understanding of art history, and incredible ability to infuse contemporary relevance into classical inspiration.

Prepare to be captivated by the emotional depth and stunning execution of this collection. Here's a sneak peek at some of the extraordinary artworks.

The level of talent on display is truly phenomenal. Congratulations, Margarita, on an absolutely stunning exhibition! We are incredibly proud of your achievements.

Black History Month Gallery

Ms. Nottingham's Year 9 Visual Arts class have produced a stunning portfolio of detailed observational sketches of African masks and artifacts.

This work showcases not only impressive technical proficiency and focus, but also our deep, global interest and value of all cultures. By studying this rich heritage for Black History Month, our diverse student body actively celebrates worldwide traditions and cultural awareness. Well done Aloha artists!

Collaborative Art & Drama

Our rich co-curricular offering includes after-school clubs such as plein air drawing, craft and mixed media and collaborative art projects. A highlight of the department is the partnership between Art and Drama students, with our student set design team creating stage backdrops, props and 3D models for the annual school production. These collaborative projects allow students to develop hands-on skills while building friendships and a shared sense of purpose.

An inexhaustible talent

Art is embedded in our school culture, with student work displayed throughout the campus, curated exhibitions and practical applications such as the house team hoodie and T-shirt logos, designed by a Sixth Form student to bring a bold, fresh identity to our house system.

The department places strong emphasis on drawing and painting, particularly the development of observational skills and representational accuracy, while also encouraging conceptual exploration. For students in the Sixth Form, dedicated studio spaces are available to support independent work and personal creative development beyond lesson time.

We are proud to offer specialist facilities including:

A printmaking studio with an etching press
A fully equipped ceramics studio with kiln and potter’s wheel
A traditional darkroom for black-and-white photography

These resources allow students to explore a wide range of techniques and approaches as they find their own artistic voice.
